Substance abuse and addiction are complex disorders that can involve virtually every aspect of an individual's life including affects on family, work, and self-esteem, just to name a few.

Because of substance abuse and addiction's complexity and pervasive consequences, therapy and treatment addresses many components. Some of those components focus directly on the individual's use of drugs or alcohol.  Others, like recovery treatment, focus on re-establishing the individual to productive membership in the family and society.
