Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health was originally created as Southern
Pines Hospital in 1982 and operated as such until 1989. At that time,
Southern Pines was bought by Charter Medical Corporation and renamed Charter
Hospital of Charleston.
Charter Pee Dee, a second facility, was opened in Florence, SC in March of 2000.
Only a few months later, in September of 2000, both organizations were purchased
by Palmetto Behavioral Health.
